FEEDLOT-RANCH SORTING
    FEEDLOT-RANCH  SORTING

  • 12 young heifers or steers in a 50' round pen.

  • 10 have numbers on their sides 0-9.

  • 2 are extra, to get in the way and make life harder.

  • A second 50' round pen is attached to the first one.

  • There is a 12' opening between the two pens.

  • 2  Riders make up a Sorting Team.

  • The announcer calls a random number out 0-9.

  • One of the team members goes in and sorts that
number cow out of the herd and the team moves
that cow to the other pen through the 12' opening.

  • They must move the next numbered cow in order,
one by one from the starting pen to the attached
pen until all numbered cows are moved and only
the 2 unnumbered cows remain in the starting pen.

  • The team has 90 seconds to sort as many of the 10
cows as they can without any cows going out of
order  or extra cows getting in the finish pen.

  • Fastest Time Wins !

Come join the fun at
Miller Time Performance Horses
Friendly, country atmosphere
in beautifully wooded Red River County.
We have had a lot of interest and questions through
phone calls and emails about our Feedlot Sorting.
I'll try to answer those questions and give some
insight here.

Feedlot Sorting is also known as Ranch Sorting, Team Sorting
or Cattle Sorting.
If you own a horse and a saddle and like to ride and move
cows, you'll enjoy Feedlot Sorting.
Notice I said "
move cows" and not "chase cows".
That is the biggest difference between Sorting and Penning.
Sorting is a slower paced event.
Walking and jogging is about it.
Any horse, rider and saddle will do for Sorting.
You can learn as you go, at your own pace.
Our Sortings are geared for having fun, learning and improving
as much as you want.
Come on out and watch.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy, fun, friendly
and down to earth you find it here.

Jeff was the chief cook and bottle
washer this week and did a darned
good job of making some great burgers
and hot dogs.
The Jackpot winners were Joe and Larry Blagg.
Congratulations guys. You and your horses get better each week!!
We ran late into the evening. The cool night air made the campfire that much
more enjoyable. It was a great time!!
